To progress to your green Ps (provisional P2 licence) you must:
- Have held your red Ps (provisional P1) for at least 12 months
- Have a good driving record (no suspensions)
- Apply for your green Ps (provisional P2 licence)
Periods in which your licence has been suspended do not count towards the 12-month requirement.
If you are disqualified from driving on your red Ps, you must reapply and any time accumulated towards the 12-month requirement is void.
An additional 6 months is added to this requirement if you are convicted of using false documents to gain access to licensed premises or to purchase alcohol while on your P1 licence.
Your green Ps (provisional P2 licence) is valid for 36 months or until you get your full licence (which you can do after 24 months). Your provisional P2 licence can be renewed after 36 months if you haven’t progressed to your full licence.

In addition to following the road rules like all road users should, there are specific rules associated with a provisional P2 licence. Disobeying these additional rules could result in heavy fines or loss of licence.

Requirements to progress to full licence

To progress to your full licence you must:
- Have held your green Ps for at least 24 months
- Have a good driving record (no suspensions)
- Apply for your full licence
Periods in which your licence has been suspended do not count towards the 24-month requirement.
On top of this, provisional P2 drivers who get a suspension for unsafe driving behaviour must stay on their P2 licence for an extra 6 months for every suspension they receive. So 24 months plus 6 months for every suspension.

- If you regularly use pesticides or fumigants in your work, you need a pest management technician licence or fumigator licence.
- If you are a trainee pest management technician or fumigator you will be required to hold a training permit
- If you provide services that use pesticides (other than fumigants) to control weeds or pests affecting plants or soil you are required to hold a ground applicator licence. The Ground Applicator Licence Fact Sheet (PDF 327KB) provides more detail on situations where a licence is required.
- If you are applying for more than one licence type you must meet the training requirements for each. Where there are identical competency requirements these only need to be completed once.
- You can apply for all of the above pesticide licences at eConnect EPA.
- If you hold a SafeWork NSW certificate of competency, this will continue to apply until its expiry date. You do not need to apply to the EPA to convert it to a licence until it approaches its expiry date.
